The story of Jacob and Esau is a story of separation and reconciliation. Here we take a deeper look at Esau’s initial refusal to accept Jacob’s gift, and of Jacob’s pressing him to accept it and what this means in terms of its application to the processes of our spiritual regeneration.
It’s a given that we have a life in the external world, but this external level of life with its relationships, activities, situations, and circumstances is not the direct focus of Logopraxis work. It’s important that these levels of life are kept separate in our thinking so that we can be clear about the “right” points for the application of the portion of text we are seeking to work with.
Everything in the Word describes
living realities which are continually being played out within every human mind. These have little to do with the actual historical figures and settings. These merely serve as a covering that can both conceal and reveal the regenerative processes within. A deeper look into the transfiguration story.
A deeper look into how the Nativity story might be applied to the life of our mind as the Word enters into our consciousness and begins to transform how we love and think.
If we are to experience the transforming power of the Word then the Son of Man must be elevated in our life as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness. An exploration into what lifting up the Son of Man looks like in terms of its practical application for our spiritual work.
Freedom, spiritually understood, is the experience of compelling oneself to hold to what the Word teaches in the face of what appearances presented to our senses would have us believe. Far from being released from difficulties, we instead are empowered by the Lord as the Word to engage with them differently.
This second verse introduces us to the conditions that serve as the basis from which the spiritual man is created and brought forth into existence. Of this mind, we read that “the earth was without form and void, and that darkness was upon the face of the deep”.
We tend to think that because the thoughts and feelings we experience are in our mind, that they are in us, or a part of us, or come from us. The Word teaches us that all things flow in but that the issue lies with what we have taken into our life as our own.
Suspend the notion that this story is about the creation of an independently existing physical universe in space and time and rather begin to bring your attention to the idea that this really is an account of the creation, or the re-creation, or the regeneration, of the human mind.
Although we can relate to being supported by the Text at the level of our personal work, the idea that we are part of a collective human being that takes form as we meet together can be rather abstract, and difficult to grasp.
